Commonwealth Bank Tennis Classic 2008
Nusa Dua Bali 07-14 September 2008
The Commonwealth Bank Tennis Classic will once again feature a rich collection of tennis talent, with many exciting new names joining the familiar faces that make the premier tennis event of South-East Asia an essential stop on the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour.
With prize money of US$600,000 plus other bonuses, Bali will showcase upcoming players set for stardom in the world of Women's tennis. We see this opportunity as a great promotion for Bali as all the international events, 30 in total around the world, will have leader boards carrying the title Road to Bali.
The tournament, to be held at the Grand Hyatt Resort, Nusa Dua Bali between 7th and 14th September, includes many of the pacesetters of 2008. As well as many players who have earned titles this year, there are several who have claimed stunning upsets at the highest level, including headline-grabbing victories at the Grand Slams held in Melbourne, Paris and London.
Who reached their first Grand Slam semi-final? Who qualified for the Last Eight Club at Wimbledon by reaching the quarter-finals at her 12th attempt? Who upset superstar Venus Williams at the French Open? Who became the first Chinese player ever to reach the semi-final of a Grand Slam? Who became the first player ever to beat world number one Justine Henin in Dubai? Which player earned doubles victories over two Grand Slam doubles champions this year? Who beat former champion Maria Sharapova at Wimbledon because she didn't like her dress?
The answers are Daniela Hantuchova, Tamarine Tanasugarn, Flavia Pennetta, Zheng Jie, Francesca Schiavone, Peng Shuai and Alla Kudryavtseva. And all are expected to take part in the Commonwealth Bank Tennis Classic 2008.
